I have a typical Ubuntu 8.04 installation on my laptop. My normal behaviour is to put the laptop into hibernation when I am done working. Once the system has been brought back to life I noticed the Yubikey has trouble being recognized as a device. To fix this I simply run the command 'lsusb', which seems to bring the USB hub (within the laptop) back into being powered. After a second the Yubikey stops blinking and works as expected.

This is a bug with the hibernation mode, not the Yubikey. Hopefully this helps others like me who run across this situation.

This is very helpful! I wonder if I can just unplug Yubikey then plug in again to fix the problem?

Thanks

Re-inserting the Yubikey does not work.

Once 'lsusb' has run, /var/log/messages shows the following:

Code:

Jun 26 19:05:52 grey-ghost kernel: [  145.909366] usb 2-2: new low speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 5

I wouldn't know if this is chipset-specific or a general kernel bug.

If you use a memory stick instead of a YubiKey, will that suffer the same problem? I'll ask our h/w firmware expert to look into this.

Thanks

I use debian testing, and haven't noticed this problem. I suspect it is due to some combination of linux kernel or USB hardware, or possibly other software.

Does this happen if the yubikey is the only USB device in your machine? And if you don't have it connected, it works again without doing 'lsusb'?

It is somewhat surprising that 'lsusb' changes anything, I thought it just read information from /proc/bus/usb/...
