Although the problem still exists on my main system, I was able to use my partner's laptop to reprogram the YK.
[off-topic]Thanks to Yubico and TrueCrypt, I now have a comfortably secure laptop system drive with a strong password comprised of a memorable personal password prefix and a long-n-strong static YK suffix.
Kudos![/off-topic]a) A Dell Y-UK-DELL1 USB keyboard, but this can be discounted as I've removed it to reduce the test factors - using only the built-in keyboard
b) A Logitech T-BB18 USB trackball, but this too has been excluded as I've tested with and without - using built-in track pointer
c) Intel Core Duo T2300 1666 MHz
d) Dell Latitude D620. Intel 945GM Express [Calistoga] (running Phoenix ROM BIOS 1.10 A10 for Dell)
Thanks again.
