I discovered two points – that may be of interest
1.) The use of USB extenders, hubs, extension cables, and USB ports built into monitors and keyboards can affect and inhibit proper behavior of the yubikey. In my case I had a Logitech USB extension port which was allowing the Personalization tool to work only partially.
2.) As I suspected, the regional settings for the keyboard appear to require a US English setting. As I live and work in Switzerland at the moment, my keyboard mapping is French (Swiss). The auto-navigate option does not work correctly in this configuration and as a result, when the yubikey is inserted, the navigation is to “httpö—www.domain.tld” instead of
http://www.domain.tld as an example.
I imagine future versions of the personalization tool will factor point 2 in and allow for other keyboard mappings.
These issues will affect customer perception and usability.
