Post subject:  [Solved] FIDO Security Key not recognized as keyboard

I just bought two keys, one NEO and one ordinary FIDO security key (blue).
The NEO works great, I can press the button at any time to get a code. The FIDO security key however does not, it is not recognized as a keyboard by my OS (Ubuntu).

It does work on the U2F demo page, but I cannot get it to function as a keyboard.

When I plugin my NEO and check dmesg it is identified as USB HID v1.10 Keyboard and USB HID v.1.10 Device.
When I plugin my FIDO Security Key it is only identified as a USB HID v.1.10 Device.

Any ideas?

USB U2F tokens do not generate OTPs, so they have no need to emulate a keyboard.

The NEO has an OTP capability which does emulate a keyboard. It is entirely separate from U2F, which is exposed as a special USB HID.

In other words, what you describe entirely matches the functional expectations for the respective devices. The blue token will never enumerate as a USB keyboard, because this is not needed for U2F.

Thanks, while waiting for this reply I looked at the comparison chart and realized the FIDO U2F device does not in fact emulate a keyboard.
