Post subject:  Yubikey NEO CCID smartcard driver for Windows 7 64bit

This week I received my newly purchased Yubikey NEO. I tried to configure it as a GPG smartcard, using the instructions as described here: http://www.yubico.com/2012/12/yubikey-neo-openpgp/

I enabled the CCID (ykpersonalize -m82), rebooted the Yubikey, and Windows returns an error: "Smartcard: no driver found". Now I can't access the preconfigured GPG app. I retried a million times but it always ends with the same error "no driver found". I'm using Windows 7 64bit.

Where can I find this driver? I can't find any hint in your instructions on the website. Hope you can give some help!

Regards,
Paul

The "No driver found" message in windows means that windows doesn't recognize that particular smart card, and doesn't have a minidriver for it. This is normal, since smart cards can contain just about anything from standardized applications used for logon, to proprietary code.

Your problem most likely relates to GPG not using the correct smart card reader.

Do you have other readers attached to or embedded in that computer?
Unplug your yubikey NEO, go to device manager, and see if there is anything configured under "Smart card readers". If so, disable them.
Then plug in your yubikey NEO and see if there is a new device under "Smart card readers", if so, the system can recognize the ccid reader embedded in the yubikey NEO.

If you use GPG 2.x, try to run the scdaemon.exe in a separate command prompt (and keep it running), and then run:
gpg2.exe --verbose --card-status

Yes - once Windows 7 sees a Smartcard, it tries to load a minidriver for it. This error can be ignored and as times goes, we'll provide a Javacard applet that keeps Windows from complaining (which also will do some useful things). Even with this error, the device can be accessed through PC/SC for example.
