Post subject:  Crash: YubiClientAPI faults in LSASS on login

When logging in using a yubikey-enabled account after reviving from sleep, YubiClientAPI will trigger an access violation in LSASS, which has unpleasent consequences (to put it mildly). I've had no luck so far isolating the precise trigger conditions, and it seems intermittent.

The only log/trace I've managed to salvage is a mention in the event log:
Code:
Faulting application name: lsass.exe, version: 6.1.7601.17725, time stamp: 0x4ec483fc
Faulting module name: YubiClientAPI.dll_unloaded, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4ebce5f7
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x000007fef8801678
Faulting process id: 0x350
Faulting application start time: 0x01cdeeab8a37c42c
Faulting application path: C:\Windows\system32\lsass.exe
Faulting module path: YubiClientAPI.dll
Report Id: 181041f1-5b93-11e2-ae15-1c6f652f0ee9

PS: Pardon me if this isn't the proper area. (A cursory examination yielded no better alternatives.)

Hi,

Which firmware is loaded in your Yubikey? I am trying to reproduce the same issue with a 2.3.1 without success

Also which Windows Os are you using? 7?

The yubikey's firmware version is 2.3.1.
The OS is Win7 x64. (Pardon for not mentioning, it was implied by the binary's revision number and 8 byte address in the log.)

The fault seems to trigger only occasionally. I've been using the login application for two weeks, and have had this crash only thrice.

I'm looking for a way to obtain a stacktrace to assist you, but I can not seem to find one which only requires a single machine. Have you any suggestions/ideas?

Could you please provide some more details about the crash? What application is invoking YubiClientAPI ? Exactly at what stage does the crash occur ?

Thanks,

The crash occurs in LSASS after logging in to a yubikey enabled account. In the two cases where I've had this crash manifest 'twas after resuming the machine from sleep and logging in. (May or may not be correlated, since 'tis the typical sequence for my machine.)

I've also managed to find two saved minidumps for the crashes mentioned aprior. (I do appologise that they're not full dumps.)

Are there any updates on this?

I recently got a yubikey (FW 2.4.1) and I'm experiencing the same crash in lsass on Windows 7 x64.
This seems to occur when my laptop resumes from hibernate.

It would be nice if this could be resolved, since I'm testing the yubikey in our company.
This prevents a wider roll-out.

Hello,

Please can you provide the following information:
- Which Client API are you using and what is invoking them
- Which laptop brand and model
- Which Operating system service pack Win 7 x64 SP
- USB bus manufacturer (e.g. NEC)
- BIOS version and ACPI configuration (if any out of standard)

So far we were unable to reproduce this error.
Thanks.

Here's the information you requested:

I'm using the x64 YubiClientAPI v1.2.0.
Laptop: Dell 6520
OS: Win 7 Prof SP1 X64
USB: Intel(R) 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller

BIOS: Latest available rev A18 No changes to the ACPI configuration.

The crash only seems to occur after logging in when the yubikey is plugged in when resuming from hibernate.
When I wait with plugging in the Yubikey until the login screen is shown, I get no crash.
