Hi Guys,

New Proud owner of a Yubikey 4. Now have some questions

I would like to use Config 1 for Static Password and Config 2 for challenge / response.

Now every time I select Config 1 and select "Write" I get the message about Symantec VIP etc etc and never dared (yet) to overwrite the config 1 and thus only use Challenge / Response in Config 2.

So my questions are

1- I have seen a Post somewhere (can't remember where) were it says if I overwrite Config 1 and you want to go back again (upload to server etc etc) you will not get the same prefix (standard I believe CC ) ? True or not ?

2- If so, is it a problem if you have another prefix then the standard one ?

3- Will overwriting Config 1, have an impact on the use of U2F with for example Google or is that independent ?

4- Final one, What is the advantage of NOT overwriting Config 1 ?

Thanks in advance for any insights

Mike

1) true

2) no problem, the only service that "vv" credentials wouldn't work on is Salesforce

3) Slot 1/Slot 2 and U2F are completely independent

4) see #2, that's the only benefit, and if you aren't planning on using any services that accept Yubico OTP, wipe it

Thanks Chris, very clear !

But 1 thing, if I overwrite Config 1 I can't login to this forum anymore ;)

Thanks again, really appreciated.

Once you've created your account, you can go to User Control Panel > Profile > YubiKey Manager and change "User multifactor authentication" to "no." This will remove the YubiKey requirement from login and you can feel free to use slot 1 for something else :) You can then also remove the registered YubiKey under "Your YubiKeys."
