Project name: Yubikey Monitor (Standalone)

License: TBD

Description: Yubikey Monitor is an utility that detects a currently connected Yubikey, monitors it's presence and locks the workstation when it is removed. It also prevents login on unless the right Yubikey is reinserted. The utility uses the Yubikey's serial number to validate the Yubikey so it's not 100% secure but it doesn't use a valuable slot.

Platforms: .NET

Webpage: https://sourceforge.net/projects/yubimonistd-gt/

Tutorial: Download, run, follow instructions on screen and be happy! If not happy, please report it to me!!! :-)

Do not hesitate to comment as I'm always looking to improve.

Also, make sure you have the API installed. The program doesn't install the API (but I'm working on integrating the dll registration in the exe)

32 bit (x86) Yubico API
64 bit (x64) Yubico API

Thank you!

Works great on win 8, 32bit.

Well done.

update:

Forgot to mention that i would prefer a challenge-response mode which would be more secure... Have a look at our windows log-on tool (which uses challenge response)

Firstly, THANK YOU for a very useful utility indeed.

Those last two links were broken by the forum software, so it would appear. (the ones for the API.) Hopefully this will.

32 bit (x86) Yubico API
64 bit (x64) Yubico API

Cheers!

kingqueen, thanks I did not realize the links didn't work, I updated them using the ones in your post. :-)

Tom, thank you very much! I am very happy. I will start working on adding to Yubikey Monitor the option to bring up the security by using challenge-response instead of the serial number. Also, if any are interested in translating it in other languages, just let me know and I'll send the localization file.

Hello

Must say thank you for a nice application it works nice on win 7 pro 64bit. I was woundering i have two yubikey standard both have the same challange respons configured one i have on my keychain at all time and the other is locked in a safe place. I use this app in windows but if i try running the second yubikey it logsme in but directly after locks the computer. I gues it is becouse it is the wrong serial. Is it possible to make the program handel two serials or read the challange respons?

Thanks again!

//Magnus

Hi Magnus,

I'm glad you like it! :D

You bring up an interesting point.

I will implement the challenge-response by the end of the summer.

Till then, I could modify the program to support 2 serial numbers but you'd have to enter both of the keys every time you run the Monitor.

Would that work for you?

Hello and thanks for the quick respons :)

I think i can wait till the challange respons is implemented a bit difficult to need both yubikeys at login, thanks anyway for the ide :).

Doesn't work with my Yubikey NEO. :(
Others keys work though. Would also be nice if it was possible to monitor multiple yubikeys.
