A very useful feature of the YubiKey NEO Manager is that it allows you to personalize the token by changing its name. The name is the first thing shown in Settings, and there's a Change Name button next to it. Cool.

But let's say I have a process here to configure NEO tokens before I give them to users, and the process is scripted. I'd like to generate an OTP ID with ykksm-gen-keys, upload it to the token and to the VPN server, and generally do everything, from the command line. It seems like I could use ykpersonalize to upload the OTP ID to the token. To upload the ID to my VPN server, I could use ykksm-import. Everything seems fine.

But to change the name of the token, apparently the only way is to launch the Manager GUI. I want to avoid that, as it breaks the workflow.

Also, ykinfo does not seem able to show the name of the token (unless I'm wrong).

Any ideas?

After looking through the source on GitHub (https://github.com/Yubico/yubikey-neo-manager), it appears that the name you set is just stored locally on your computer; it's only there to make it easier to tell the difference between multiple NEOs in the NEO Manager.

Check $HOME_DIRECTORY/.neoman/settings.ini, you'll see names associated with serial numbers for any NEOs that you've changed the name on.

Oh, that's right, the device per se doesn't have a name, it's just a local mapping.

Thanks!
