Using Yubikey NEO I cannot find out a way to program the Yubikey in a way that OATH-TOTP mode is ebabled and can be used without the YubiTOTP.exe program running on the PC. I downloaded the Configuration Utility from http://static.yubico.com/var/uploads/fi ... taller.msi and there is the possibility to program the Yubikey for OATH-HOTP mode but not for OATH-TOTP mode.

So I always have to run the small YubiTOTP program to get my one-time-pws created and pushed into the clipboard but I want to use it simpler, by just touching the YubiKey so it inserts the one-time-password via the keyboard driver.

How can I configure the Yubikey?

Hi,

Currently you cannot do that, since the Yubikey needs the computer clock to generate a TOTP.

hi Tom, thanks for the answer, also if this was not what I wanted to hear...
Can you tell whether this is true also for the Yubikey NANOs? because they are advertised with the statement "no client software or drivers driver, needed" so I wonder whetehr this marketing stuff is true or not...

The Yubikey is fully functional without any additional driver or software, you do not need to install anything to use the Yubico OTP, Challenge Response, Password or OATH-HOTP mode.

TOTP is not supported by the Yubikey and the TOTP helper app is a solution to add extra feature to the Yubikey.

The Yubikey does not have a battery therefore it doesn't make sense to expect the device to generate TOTP codes without a clock.

I'm thinking of taking a USB-Port-Extension with two YubiKeys (because of the two slot limit :S) and two USB sticks (both soldered into the usb-hub) with me (for Thunderbird portable, Small Linux system, some password recovery tools etc and).
Are there portable TOTP apps for Linux available (which I could put on one of the stick)?

Regards!

Second this. I could abandon one of my Yubikeys that sits "always in" my system if I could do double-duty with my Neo on my system and with my mobiles.

did you guys had a look at the Yubico Authenticator for dekstop?

http://opensource.yubico.com/yubioath-desktop/

Works with the NEO and the Yubico Authenticator applet which is shipped by default in every NEO. Works with the Yubico Authenticator Android app as well.

Tom.
