I just received a new Yubikey NEO.

Its acting flaky in Windows and Mac. On Mac it didnt work at all.

On windows I successfully did
ykpersonalize.exe -m82

Now on Windows 7 its very strange.

If I plug it into a USB slot the lights on the NEO may flash, go steady, then work for all of 1 minute.

I can do thinks like
D:\archive\yubikey\ykpers-1.15.1\bin>ykinfo.exe -v
version: 3.2.0

After 1 minute the USB will go dark. The USB device disappears from the System Tray. I also get a USB error if I do
D:\archive\yubikey\ykpers-1.15.1\bin>ykinfo.exe -v
USB error: The operation completed successfully.

After that the NEO lights will turn off and the device will no longer work.

If I move it to a different USB slot the lights might flash 3 blinks, dark, 3 blinks, dark, etc...

At other times I get an error that states Unrecognized USB device.

It seems that I need to unplug my NEO for a while (> 10-60 minutes). If I plug it back in it might work again for 1 minute but most likely not. I tried moving it around between different USB slots but nothing.

It "seems" to auto eject after a minute (or so) and then not work again for a long time.

I have been a developer for a LONG time and this really seems like a Driver or Hardware issue. Likely with the Yubikey since the problem occurs on Windows and Mac.

Please set the NEO in HID mode only.

open the personalization gui - and check if firmware versoin and serial number are correctly reported. (wait 1-2 min)

Is the NEO still detected?

Swap to mode -m82 again.

Do you still experience the same issue? Please for these operation use:

- Yubikey NEO manager - opensource.yubico.com
- Yubikey personalization gui - www.yubico.com / opensource.yubico.com

Just out of curiosity did you tried on a different computer (windows) ? If not do so.

Tom,

Let me try it again tonight. As mentioned it certainly seemed a hardware/driver issue (or conflict with existing device). I tried many things last night and eventually it seemed the NEO started working on the Windows machine. I dont remember the steps that lead up it working but I believe it was me uninstalling the driver for the Omnikey 5321 v2 Smartcard reader. I had also disabled several devices on my Laptop since it I seemed a hardware/driver/conflict issue.

I will test and update this thread with more information by tomorrow night incase others get this kind of issue.
