Is it possible to utilise my Javacard configuration (gpg key) on a virtual machine running on my MacBook via VMWare Fusion?

The VM is a ubuntu 12.04 desktop image and I don't see my Yubikey register at all via dmesg but pressing the button causes the generation of a OTP.

When I plug a normal thumb drive in, it is automatically detected and passed through to the Ubuntu VM and I can see ubuntu initialising the drive in dmesg.

Yes, that's possible. However, default VMware policy is, not to pass HID devices to VMs. You can change that by editing the VM's .vmx file adding
Code:
usb.generic.allowHID = "TRUE"

and reboot the VM. The yubikey will then appear as a (one of) "unknown" devices that can be attached.
