Anyone that has tried to use a yubikey for 2FA with AWS services knows, this does not work out of the box. However, it seems like it shouldn't be impossible to get working.

Searching these forums brings up this old thread, containing a proposed solution ("write an applet") and some dead links. My question is: what possible solutions exist to using a Yubikey 4 as a 2FA-device with AWS? Is anyone successfully using their Yubikey 4 with AWS or should I give up?

People are complaining on the AWS forums as well, but here is also talk in that thread about using a browser extension to mediate. How would that work?

Any ideas?

Thanks!

For AWS login the only option currently possible with the YubiKey is via TOTP (in place of an app like Google Authenticator, you use Yubico Authenticator along with the YubiKey to store the secret).
