I created a guide on how to use smart card authentication and the Yubikey Neo for home users where you may not care about getting the certificates signed by a true CA. I prefer this method over the static password method given in another tutorial. I use OpenSSL that it included with the yubico-piv-tool.

I am trying to follow these instructions today. The yubico-piv-tool-1.4.2-win64 that works for Windows 10, 64-bit machines doesn't have openssl.exe, so it's unclear how to move forward.

Also, is there any way to use the Yubico PIV Manager tool to load / generate the certificate? I tried doing that for slot 9a, and it didn't work as far as use with Bitlocker.

Thanks.

You need to pull version 1.0.0 or older. Starting in 1.0.1, we relicensed to a 2-clause BSD license, so we had to remove OpenSSL.exe from the download. Older builds can be pulled from here - https://developers.yubico.com/yubico-piv-tool/Releases/

No, you need to use PIV Tool for these instructions - PIV Manager will not work.

Thanks - this worked fine once I used that older version and openssl.
