So I've configured my Yubikey with the personalisation tool, setting the settings:

Configuration Slot 2
Yubikey unprotected
Require User Input
Variable Input
Hit Generate repeatedly to randomise the key
Clicked 'Write Configuration'
It says it wrote the config to the Yubkikey.

Installed the Windows Logon program.
Enabled the Windows logon (didn't reboot immediately first time round, but subsequent attempts I did reboot inbetween)
Click on my username, then click on Configure. The Windows Logon program tells me it configured ok.
Here's where things go wrong - when I click on Test and press my Yubikey button I get the following error

Hello,

Please use latest version of the CROSS platform personalization tool to configure your Yubikey.
http://static.yubico.com/var/uploads/fi ... -3.1.5.exe

When configuring you Yubikey, disable the "require user input option" because that will require you to touch the key twice very fast.

I thought I already had the latest version, but I re-downloaded and installed it anyway.

Re-ran the configuration removing the 'Require user input' option
Now when I try to configure the Windows Logon, it now doesn't confirm that it's configured properly, nor is there any confirmation either way about the testing.

Nor does it allow me to log in!

FYI: this is a brand new Yubikey only purchased recently. Firmware version 2.3.3.

Reboot Windows in safe mode and you will be able to log-in (you probably did not enable the Yubikey for the safe mode of Windows)

Oh I can still get into Windows via Safe Mode which does allow me to disable Yubikey logon. My point is though, following the steps you outlined still hasn't allowed me to setup my computer to require Yubikey logon successfully. Which defeats the reason for me buying a Yubikey.
