Post subject:  Simulate Yubikey Touch

Hi All,

We are trying to find out if there is any option to simulate Yubikey Touch button so that OTP can be generated without user intervention. Basically the intent is to provide a seamless user experience by triggering the OTP generation process automatically. Came across "ykFLAG_ALLOW_HIDTRIG" flag which means "Allowing trigger by CAPS and NUM" in the "ykFlagProperty" of IYubiKeyConfig methods from COM Integrators guide.

Is this property required to be set when trying to trigger OTP generation by simulating the Yubikey touch functionality? Let us know if there are other APIs which can be used to achieve this.

Any help of suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi,

I kinda hope that this can't be done. I wouldn't like some software to push my buttons... Normally I'm not going to use up all 60000+ keys, but a small app could do that pretty quickly. The first yubikey DoS-worm would be around in no time if this can be done.

But maybe I'm missing something here....

Be following this thread...

Kind Regards,

We have deleted that feature, which we had in Yubikey 1.x. Partly for security reasons (although anyone who don't like it could turn it off) but also for compatibility reasons. This function really functioned on Windows platforms only.

Without knowing the needs in details, have you considered the new challenge-response functionality, provided by firmware version 2.2 ? Here, you can programmatically send a challenge to the Yubikey and optionally wait for the user to press the key. The challenge is then processed by the Yubikey and you get a response back. This however, contrary to the general Yubikey paradigm, requires client-side drivers.

We have deployed a Windows library and some sample applications to test these features out. Please check it out at

There, installers and user guides form the Client- and Server APIs can be downloaded for evaluation.
