I don't seem to be able to set a static password on mu ubikey neo. The password field is greyed out.

Having watched the how-to video it's not clear what the issue is as on that the guy is able to type in the pw after selecting slot 2.

The side bar is showing firmware 3.3.6 and the appropriate tick for static password.

edit - using the PC software, have tried on 2 machines.

Cheers

David

OK, it turns out that you have to select a keyboard layout before you can type the password. Despite the fact that there is only one option.

All that done, I'm still struggling to set the thing up to work with Password safe. When following their instructions I'm getting a yubikey not responding message.

Can anyone point me to a guide (that works) to do this ? I'm getting the feeling that there may be two approaches but it's not exactly clear.

Cheers Tom, that looks good.

I eventually got it to work by following this:

A quick question - when you set a static password on slot 2, to avoid over writing the default config on slot one, slot one still seems to be the default for the pc. Is it possible to choose ?

Presumably now I've set up Password Safe, that's on Slot 2 - so there is no further option for a static password ?

Correct.

Slot 1, Yubico OTP (default)
Slot 2, HOTP (for password safe)

There is no slot 3, thus you cannot store a password. You will need to replace the Yubico OTP if you don't use it.

Cheers :)

I guess that would prevent me from using this site ?

Does it follow that if I tried to reinstate the default slot 1 after having it as a static p/w the resulting 'string' would be out of sync and fail to authenticate ?

Correct, unless you disable strong authentication in the user control panel top right corner, which (surprise surprise) is not recommended.

Sorry, I think I added the second line after your reply - is that the case too ?

No, you cannot reset it to initial configuration.

You will have to create a new configuration, generate a new key and upload it to the YubiCloud.
