At least on Ubuntu, the stock home dir encryption is ecryptfs.

It comes with all the pluses and minuses of file level encryption rather than block level encryption, as described rather nicely in their faq here.
Statistics: Posted by chmac — Mon Feb 11, 2013 9:26 am

Hello,

In this early morning only 3 options come to my mind...

1) Use TrueCrypt
2) Use Windows BitLocker, to encrypt the drive (Bit Locker is available only on certain windows versions)
3) Use Encryption utilities. My favorites are: http://www.axantum.com/axcrypt/ and http://file-encryption.net/

For Linux, i usually go with TrueCrypt and I encrypt the /home partition with the system tool provided by Debian/Ubuntu (can't remember the name atm

For all those solutions, you can store a strong long password in SLOT 2 of your Yubikey.

The best is to concatenate the Password with a short PIN. (i.e. You type in s4M1+PasswordFromYubikey)
http://www.yubico.com/applications/disk ... ncryption/
Statistics: Posted by Tom — Fri Feb 08, 2013 8:44 am

Are there any programs out there that can encrypt a USB flash drive and use a Yubikey to decrypt it? ie functionality as follows:

-Plug encrypted flash drive into PC
-Prompt appears for Yubikey password
-Use yubikey to inject password and decrypt usb flash drive for use.

I guess I could do this with any encryption software and set the second slot on my yubikey with a static password? Just wonder what the current options are, love this thing
Statistics: Posted by OPTiK — Thu Feb 07, 2013 8:30 pm
