As the only static part of the OTP is the public id (first 12 characters of the OTP), we have to use the public id to map a user name to the YubiKey. We need to store this "username:public id" mapping in database to check the owner ship of the YubiKey.

Unique identify each key

Hi,

We have a couple of yubikeys 1 firmware version: 1.03.5.

We would like to use these keys and identify them each in a unique way.

One user has one key and its registered to that user.
No other key can be used with this user.

Is the only solution to increment the public id? and register this is a database?
