The real problem here is that the newer cross platform Yubikey Personalization Tool does not allow the end user to program a Yubikey 2nd slot static password with the equivalent of the "slow down the character output rate" option that the older Windows only "Yubikey Configuration Utility" did. (Unless I'm just being dense)

I've programmed the 2nd slot of a Yubikey 2.2.4 with a 32 char static password using the Windows only Yubikey Configuration Utility and the options in the screen shot below. It works just fine at the OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion Filevault 2 login boot prompt.

The problem with this workaround is that the older utility does not allow you clone a static password to a backup Yubikey. You are stuck with one key that can perform an OS X Filevault 2 login and that is unacceptable in my book.

Yubico, please update the cross platform Yubikey Personalization Tool to restore the "slow down the character output rate" functionality when programming static passwords.
Statistics: Posted by srf21c — Fri Jan 04, 2013 5:17 am

Do you have FileVault2 full-disk encryption enabled?

If so, the true source of the problem is a limitation of the EFI firmware. I've had a bug open with Apple about this since July of 2011: rdar://9815697
Statistics: Posted by amcgregor — Wed Aug 15, 2012 7:11 pm

Good day guys.
I'm a new Yubikey user.

Everything has been working fine but just ran into a snag..

I wanted to use channel 2 / Static / 32character
For logins for local computers.

i'm using 8+32 character I type in the first 8 and use the yubikey to put the rest in.
For some reason OSX is not liking me inputing it with the yubikey.
If i type out all the characters it is fine.

I've also used the yubikey personalization tool and changed
Settings/output speed throttling / sold down to 60ms
same results

Only tested on one mashine have not tried on others.
It is an intel 2008 unibody 15" macbook pro
Statistics: Posted by hikari — Fri Jul 20, 2012 5:46 am
