I can kind of see why it's been done this way, but I think your comment is valid. I've just received my order of Yubikeys, and was quite anxious to get one working for the forums as there were some questions that people had posted, that could have been answered, but were limited to those with experience but no Yubikey yet.

Maybe there is some way around this to help prevent spammers?

Hi,

I've just received my Yubikey today and am using it with LastPass

I tried to join the forums before and was not able to as I needed a yubikey. I though this was a bit odd as it restricts potential customers from communicating with people who already have a yubikey. Personally, I usually converse with users using a product to get a true idea of its effectiveness etc.

I would suggest that the forum have a 'public' section for anyone to access and a restricted section where only yubikey owners can make posts.

What do you think?
