Further, fingerprint readers needs to be personalized for a particular user which often requires software in a PC. This complicates the otherwise easy enrollment process for the YubiKey. So even if fingerprint readers were affordable, there are practical disadvantages with fingerprint technology.

We are interested in supporting it eventually though, but are not actively looking at it right now. If there is a fingerprint company out there that wants to co-operate with us, please contact us!

Q: Do you have plans to add some kind of fingerprint reader? Making the key unusable until the rightful owner has his/her finger read.

A: We have been looking into the opportunity of combining fingerprint technology with the YubiKey, but as the manufacturing cost would be 10-20 X more expensive. We do not have any concrete plans for this at the moment.
