As I mentioned in this post, I'd be happy to buy your Yubikey NEO from you if your Yubikey has a serial number that has the known management keys (i.e.: the serial number is larger than 3000000 and not between 2624253 to 2624449 and 2624801 to 2625499).

Yubico no longer offers "developer edition" devices like this without signing an NXP NDA, which I am not interested in doing.

Send me a PM if you are interested.
Statistics: Posted by darco — Thu Jan 15, 2015 8:30 pm

More or less

The problem is that our "developer device" is not developer device anymore, because we haven't access to some applets. We can't test, we can't audit it. We have limited set of toys and it have to be enough for us.

Yubikey NEO is realy great device! It is the best token on market! There is no other security token with USB&NFC on board, OpenPGP support and TOTH keystore.

Just a pity that there is no way to upgrade it.

Almost all of us on this forum are IT guys. We know how it works, we know something about security and IT reality. Yubico don't want to answer directly: "guys! we are selling hardware, and we need your money". Clear message. Why we can't see U2F applet? Because of backdoor or because something else?
Even answers for u2f implementation wasn't clear. Thanks gods, they published explanation on their blog finally (thanks for it!).

So… Yubico! Keep doing your best! Just tell us more how it works, because we love to know how it works And send to us clear messages about your plans (especially about updates), because we have to know if we should buy tokens now, or we should wait for devices with new features (like u2f nfc), because our resources are also limited.
Statistics: Posted by bmalkow — Tue Nov 18, 2014 10:01 am

YubiKey NEO and NEO-n devices have shipped with firmware version 3.3 since Oct. 1, which includes U2F support along with other protocols including Yubico OTP and smart card functionality.

YubiKey NEOs are not upgradable based on best security practices. In fact, no YubiKey firmware can be upgraded since the device security is designed so nothing (including malware) can write to the firmware.

For more information see our blog YubiKey and BadUSB (https://www.yubico.com/2014/08/yubikey-badusb/)
Statistics: Posted by Tom — Mon Oct 27, 2014 3:44 pm

As a happy owner of two yubikeys (one stored in a safe as a backup), I was wondering if there are any plans to offer an upgrade path for existing yubikey owners? Having already invested in my two existing yubikeys - which will eventually become obsolete, all things considered with U2F - it would be nice to be able to purchase a yubikey neo at a discounted price. Assuming the actual production cost of yubikeys is a tiny fraction of their selling price, it seems this could be done without really hurting the bottom-line.

What say you, Yubico?
Statistics: Posted by anastrophe — Wed Oct 22, 2014 6:26 pm
