What about overwriting its static password with the configuration utility in order to delete said password ?
Just suggesting a softer way

We got a report from a customer who put it on a railroad track before a freight train passed. Sad to admit, but the Yubikey perished and was not recovered....

I silently wonder what outcome this guy expected... Also securely wanted to get rid of its secrets ?
