OK I found the problem. For some reason the app was very old and was not updating (play store would not show any updates).

Uninstalling and reinstalling from play store fixed it.

I just received my NEO in the mail today, went to the Android "Yubico Authenticator" app and scanned a QR code.

A message pops up "Unsupported applet version on NEO. Make sure this app is up to date!"

I went to the play store to see if there were any app updates, there are none. My yubikey is newer than the android app, apparently? Where's the android app update? The app is v0.1.11.
