THANK YOU! I just KNEW I could not have 2 bad keys... Recall my old key DID work with pwsafe - it showed both slots programmed... this new one showed only slot 1 programmed.

So I am afraid I cannot agree/understand your comment "Slot 2 is long press (~3 second press and hold) if you have a Yubico OTP, OATH-HOTP, or static password programmed here. If you have nothing programmed here, or a Challenge-Response credential programmed (in the case of pwsafe), both short and long press will send slot 1. This is because Challenge-Response works the same way U2F does - it can't be used until an application queries the YubiKey." With nothing pre-programmed into slot 2 on this new key, it simply did nothing good for pwsafe.

So I programmed as that note showed and pwsafe now is again happily using my shorter pw and my yubikey.

THANK you very much!
Statistics: Posted by yorlik — Wed Jul 26, 2017 7:02 pm

Slot 1 is short press. Press the button briefly for slot 1. By default, Yubico OTP is programmed into slot 1 on every YubiKey. That's why the Personalization Tool says slot 1 is programmed.

Slot 2 is long press (~3 second press and hold) if you have a Yubico OTP, OATH-HOTP, or static password programmed here. If you have nothing programmed here, or a Challenge-Response credential programmed (in the case of pwsafe), both short and long press will send slot 1. This is because Challenge-Response works the same way U2F does - it can't be used until an application queries the YubiKey.

The blinking behavior you're describing is normal for any YubiKey with CCID enabled. It'll blink on every ~ 3 seconds.

pwsafe isn't working because you haven't set it up with this YubiKey yet. There are instructions for this - https://www.yubico.com/why-yubico/for-i ... rs/pwsafe/ Your old YubiKey would have worked if you followed the instructions to program the Challenge-Response credential. The new one will not because you haven't done this.

If you have other questions, please be concise. Sending a long list of questions will likely not get you a response on the forum from the community.
Statistics: Posted by ChrisHalos — Mon Jul 24, 2017 7:25 pm

I swear I searched online and yubico site, but not being an IT wiz, I cannot figure out what these two things mean.

I bought a Neo from Amazon:
1) it seldom was seen by either authenticator or neo mgr programs on win 10 64bit here; sometimes would pop up info after 5 minutes tho
2) it DID work consistently with yubikey personalization tool - even said slot 1 AND 2 programed - whatever that meant.
3) It DID work consistently with my passwordsafe (https://pwsafe.org/).
4) It NEVER worked with my samsung S5 when near field turned on
5) when it was asked to send a code (like to pwsafe or yubico demo), it slowly blinked so I knew it wanted button pushed

So I returned it for refund as defective. NOW I see on forum some S5's don't work - I have not dug into any possible work arounds there yet..

Bought another one. THIS one is similar but worse:
1) it seldom is seen by either authenticator or neo mgr programs on win 10 64bit here; sometimes would pop up info after 5 minutes tho
. fw 3.4.9, says all 3 connection modes on, shows serial number, no apps
2) it DID work consistently with yubikey personalization tool - even said slot 1 ONLY programed - whatever that means.
3) It does NOT work with my passwordsafe (https://pwsafe.org/)
. if I push Yubikey button in pwsafe app, I expect a 30 second window saying "push yubi key button:
. now it just flashes that for 50 msec and keeps saying "no response from yubikey"
4) It still NEVER works with my samsung S5 when near field turned on
5) when it is asked to send a code (like to pwsafe or yubico demo), it NEVER slowly blinks. It ALWAYS blinks at rate of ON 50msec, then OFF 3000msec then repeat - like a heartbeat.

Both passed single and double authentication on demo.yubico in something called OTC and UF2.
Is this one defective?

Thank you.
Statistics: Posted by yorlik — Wed Jul 19, 2017 7:15 pm
