We've been discussing implementing something automated like that, but as we have not asked you guys if you want to have this possibility or not, we found it to be an obvious vulnerability for those who plan to use their keys for "real" applications.

I beleive a good option would be that you order your key to be a "developer key", where you have the self-service key retreival. As a part of the ordering process would be to accept this "vulnerability".

We'll get back in this question. There are quite a few tools that we plan to post on Google Code - stay tuned.

You can email Yubico support and request the AES key. The support email address is located on the "contact" page of the website (http://www.yubico.com/contact/index/). I did that and received my key within 24 hours. I am not sure what info they need but when I sent my email I included a forwarded copy of my purchase receipt email along with 2 outputs from my Yubikey so that they could figure out the corresponding AES key to send.

I know that there is no way to get the YubiKey to tell me the AES key it used for encryption, but I have a vague memory of hearing that Yubico would send the AES keys on a disc when they shipped the YubiKeys. Maybe I was dreaming? [1]

It sure would be nice to be able to work on my own internal authentication server without having to reprogram my key, thus rendering it unrecognizable by the Yubico servers.

[1] Wow! That's an interesting peek into my psyche. Dreaming about security keys... How bizarre is that?
