The code in your post is not the actual secret stored in the QR code. It's a backup code used in case you lose your secret in the Authenticator (losing your phone or your yubikey)

The QR code is only used to facilitate the entry of the secret in the Authenticator App. To do the same with the Yubikey, you must decode the QR code and enter the secret in the Personalization Tool. Then configure a Yubikey slot with that secret using OATH-HOTP.

Make sure you convert the base32 to hex before configuring the Yubikey.

Morph
Statistics: Posted by Morphlin — Tue Mar 18, 2014 9:23 pm

I am only finding instructions for this for Gmail, but I am using a site that has a barcode and a "backup" key. I am not sure if this is a base32 output or whatever it is. It gives the google authenticator scanner, and this:
Please write down this code incase you lose your phone:
K5ZVAUKQMQYVASSIHE2GGSKOGM3XIVKW

I would like to use my yubikey here. Where can I plug this in and enable the OTPs? I assume I have to go through the TOTP challenge route, but I am not finding any instructions on how to do this, and I have been trying! Thank you.
Statistics: Posted by anewuser — Wed Jan 08, 2014 2:03 am
