Linux seg fault serious issues

I recently received a yubikey and have set it up for logon with linux mint 17.1 which I think was initially successful (didn't logout though)

However after setting up linux logon I tried to activate for gmail and kept getting errors.
I then found the need to link a key with an activation code for the yubikey cloud service which I completed and got the yubikey working fine with gmail.

However now I am unable change user or sudo on linux!!!
Luckily this PC logs on automatically (haven't dared restart) but the lack of sudo is extremely limiting.
"su root" also asks for the yubikey although I thought I had only set it up for my primary user.
Accessing preferences that normally need sudo (eg. create/edit users) either crash or don't appear.

When running the yubikey in a terminal I get a segmentation fault most times.

Code:

Jul 1 13:33:14 markw kernel: [1372917.242852] su[7989]: segfault at 1d ip 00007fee92071e0c sp 00007fee7e777558 error 4
Jul 1 13:33:14 markw kernel: [1372917.242854] su[7986]: segfault at 1d ip 00007fee92071e0c sp 00007fee87f7a558 error 4su[7990]: segfault at 1d ip 00007fee92071e0c sp 00007fee86777558 error 4 in libc-2.19.so[7fee91fef000+1bb000] in libc-2

So considering that I have no sudo (but could launch a USB live system) what are my options?
Is there an easy way to remove the yubikey from the logon process or should I bite the bullet and do a clean install?
Statistics: Posted by markw — Wed Jul 01, 2015 7:46 am
