For security reasons and for avoiding accidental reprogramming, YubiKeys can be protected using configuration protection password. If the configuration protection password is set, you can not reprogram the YubiKey unless the correct configuration protection password is supplied during reprogramming.

If you want to clear the the configuration stored in YubiKey or want to reprogram it you need to provide the correct configuration protection password. There is no way other than providing the correct configuration protection password if you have set one and now want to reprogram your YubiKey.

I have been looked out of the number 1 configuration on both of my keys and can not get in to change the static password.

This happened when I pluged it in.

I have a password on one that can't be seen and the other has only about 16 letters in it.

how can I get it working?
